Kano Pillars have been charged by the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for breaching the league's Framework and Rules during their Matchday 9 fixture against Nasarawa United on Sunday.
According to the NPFL, Kano Pillars' Media and Communications Directorate quoted player Ahmed Musa making disparaging statements about match officials, which is deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
Furthermore, the club failed to ensure the proper conduct of their team, resulting in the unruly behavior of player Ugochukwu Gabriel (jersey number 26) during the match. Consequently, Gabriel has been suspended for the next 9 NPFL matches, starting from Matchday 10.
The sanctions against Kano Pillars include:
- A fine of N1 million for misconduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute
- An additional fine of N1 million for improper conduct of players and officials
- A warning against publishing inflammatory statements in the future
- Advice to use appropriate channels to register complaints, with recurrence leading to weightier sanctions
Kano Pillars reserve the right to appeal the sanctions within 48 hours from the date of notice.
This development comes as a stern warning to NPFL clubs to maintain discipline and respect for match officials, and to adhere to the league's rules and regulations.
Sanctions Breakdown:
- Ugochukwu Gabriel: 9-match suspension (starting from Matchday 10)
- Kano Pillars: N2 million fines (N1 million for misconduct, N1 million for improper conduct)
- Warning against inflammatory statements
- Right to appeal within 48 hours.
