In a scathing assessment, Sports Minister John Enoh has branded Team Nigeria's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics as a "disaster" after the team returned home empty-handed, failing to secure a single medal.
The Minister's harsh words come on the heels of several disappointing outcomes, including the disqualification of the 4x400m relay team and the shocking failure of reigning Commonwealth Games champion, Tobi Amusan, to reach the 100m hurdles final.
Enoh's criticism is not just a reaction to the team's poor performance but also a call to action, as he vowed to prevent such disappointing outcomes in the future. The Minister emphasized the need for sweeping reforms in the leadership of sports federations, hinting at a major overhaul.
The Sports Minister's statement has sparked a heated debate about the state of Nigerian sports, with many calling for accountability and change. As the country looks to bounce back from this disappointing performance, one thing is clear: the status quo is no longer acceptable, and drastic measures are needed to restore Nigeria's sporting pride.
