Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Tournament Ends In Jos, Lobi Stars Emerge Champions

The 2024 Gusau/Ahlan Pre Season Soccer Tournament has come to a close after a two-week competition in Jos, Plateau State. In a press statement signed by the tournament media coordinator Lurwanu Idris Malikawa stated that, Sixteen football clubs from across the country participated in the third edition of the tournament, which has been described as the most peaceful, entertaining, and passionate among previous years.

Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi emerged as champions after defeating Wikki Tourist Football Club of Bauchi State 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time during the final match on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the New International Stadium in Jos.

The champions, Lobi Stars, received a trophy and one million Naira, while runners-up Wikki Tourist received a trophy and five hundred thousand Naira. The tournament provided an opportunity for participating teams to showcase their preparation and make necessary corrections ahead of the 2024/2025 football season.

The Local Organizing Committee, led by Alhaji Sabo Abdullahi Dutse and General Coordinator Alhaji Abahuraira Dahiru, expressed gratitude to Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang for hosting and sponsoring the tournament. They also thanked the government and people of Plateau State, Plateau State Football Association, participating teams, referees, media, security agents, and all contributors to the tournament's success.

Special appreciation was given to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and board member Alhaji Sharif Rabi'u Inuwa Ahlan for approving the tournament's rotation across states.

The tournament concluded with the presentation of awards to notable individuals, including Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, former Commissioner of Sports Plateau State Alhaji Bashir Lawandi, and President of the Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau. Others recognized include former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State Mr. Silas Agara, former Director-General of the National Sports Commission Alhaji Alassan Yakmut, and various football stakeholders.

The next host state for the 2025 tournament will be announced in due course.
